about onestringbag
My name is Tania Ivanka the designer and founder of onestringbag.
I started using the ancestor to the onestringbag in 2002 when I was trying to eliminate plastic bags from my shopping at Victoria Market. After making my own shopping bags (just before Planet Arks green Bag campaign) I found that I was just filling up my reusable shopping bags with lots of smaller plastic bags as I had my fruit and veg weighed for purchase. I bought some netting and made the first onestringbags. Most of these original bags are still in use!
Designer and lecturer, I am currently finishing my Masters by Research at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. onestringbag has become one of my research projects into a wholisitic sustainable practice, and I am looking at communicating sustainability and sustainable thinking in all aspects of my practice.
I made my first onestringbag to use when I go shopping at Vic Market in Melbourne Australia. I still get comments about how good they are from the grocers, and noticing how nothing was changing in that specific area, i decided it was time i tried selling them. So I am here to spread the meme: lets get rid of packaging!
